In 1967, the Moscow magazine Smena published a science fiction novel, "Riders from Nowhere," by father and son Alexander and Sergei Abramov. The novel was a revelation to readers at the time. A Soviet polar expedition. Blocks of ice cut from the Arctic ice by an unknown force and sent to an unknown destination. Mysterious pink clouds over the planet, defying the laws of physics. Doppelgangers of people, appearing and disappearing without a trace. No, alas, not without a trace: doppelgangers are beginning to appear all over the world, and phantom cities are emerging where these duplicates of people live and create their own history. An alien intelligence is exploring humanity. Its purpose is unknown...

A year later, a sequel to "Riders" was published, the novel "Paradise Without Memory," and ten years later, the trilogy concluded with the novel "Silver Version." While in the first book the heroes are only just beginning to make contact with the mysterious, otherworldly force that has visited our planet, in the following novels of the trilogy they enter into a decisive struggle with the consequences of a blind experiment imposed on us by aliens from without.

According to some readers, The Doomed City (1975) by the Strugatsky brothers is a replica of A. and S. Abramov's novel Paradise Without Memory. Perhaps, we won't argue.
