The events described in the book are valuable from a historical point of view. The author is one of the few surviving prisoners who was a member of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Sonderkommando. Members of the sonderkommando accompanied prisoners to the gas chambers, which were equipped as showers. They helped them undress, cut off the women's long hair, took away their belongings, and extracted their gold teeth after death. But their main task was to transport the bodies of the victims from the gas chambers to the ovens. Because the members of the Sonderkommando were unwitting accomplices of the executioners, in order to cover up crimes against humanity, almost all of them were murdered. This book is a true story of a place where inhuman cruelty, despair, hunger, suffering and death were part of the daily reality, and a reminder of a terrible tragedy that forever crossed the destinies of many men, women and children. The foreword to the book was written by Simone Weil, a former prisoner of Auschwitz and President of the Holocaust Memorial Foundation.
