The encyclopedic biography of Vladimir Nabokov, written by Brian Boyd, professor at Oakland and Princeton Universities, not only removed similar works by his predecessors from scientific and reader circulation, but also “closed” the question of a new biography of Nabokov. The fundamental work of Professor Boyd received the highest marks from researchers and admirers of V. Nabokov’s work for its detail and laconic accuracy of presentation, universal reference apparatus and notes, and a carefully selected set of archival photographs. Professor Boyd received considerable assistance (which is now difficult to overestimate) from the writer’s widow, Vera Yevseyevna, and their son, Dmitry Vladimirovich.
Since its publication in English (1990, 1991), this two-volume work has been the only authoritative source of information about Nabokov’s life and work. This reprint (2024) is a biography of V. Nabokov, supplemented by the author in 2010.
