In her book, Chetna Makan says that she does not aim to give the reader a plan for a specific diet to lose weight or solve health problems. It is simply a collection of everyday recipes that have been used in her family for generations, to which she has been accustomed since childhood, and hopes that the reader will also find them a source of culinary inspiration. She inherited her love for cooking from her mother, a keen home cook who always cooked with fresh produce, never using convenience foods, which were virtually unavailable in India in the recent past. Accustomed to cooking with fresh and seasonal produce, the author of the book herself tries to follow this principle, although today's food market offers a plethora of ready-made solutions. The book was written to demonstrate to people who think that Indian food is something fatty, spicy and complicated, something opposite: Indian dishes are massively balanced in terms of healthy ingredients. Indian cuisine is mostly vegetarian, but fish or chicken dishes are also present in reasonable amounts in the author's family's diet. You will learn how to prepare delicate coconut curry with chicken, you will easily demonstrate the classics - combine asparagus and green peas, and properly cooked eggplant will surprise your loved ones with amazing taste. And you will definitely fall in love with crunchy, fresh and spicy pickled vegetables. As a bonus: in the chapter "Salad" there are three variants of salad based on boiled chickpeas - with spicy chicken, with cherry tomatoes and cilantro, with spicy potatoes and mint; in the chapter "Vegetables" - four variants of curry with yogurt, three variants of tomato curry with fenugreek, four variants of tomato curry with cashews.
