"Vera Yermolayeva came from a family of noble people, knew European art well, studied in the workshop of M. Bernstein and participated in the Russian Dada circle "Bloodless Murder". She became the right hand of K. Malevich in Unovis, energetic activist Ginhuk and theorist of plastic realism. Despite a serious illness (all her life Vera Mikhailovna walked with a cane), she had a rare energy and vitality, attracted and organized young people, worked hard and easily. These qualities allowed her in recent years to become an important artist of Lebedev's Detgiz, to design dozens of books - including texts by her friends, the Oberiuts. Ermolaeva's path was "stopped on the run" - together with the artist, who was convicted and died in the Karlag in 1937, her era disappeared. But if the easel legacy of the avant-garde could disappear or lie in folders for decades, books live a scattered life of circulation. They too are fragile - small lithographed sheets on a paper clip - and after almost a hundred years, collected together, they look like a pictorial panorama of a great epoch. This edition includes a sketch of Vera Ermolaeva's work by art historian Antonina Zainchkovskaya, an exhaustive set of documents and texts by the artist and a small catalog of her book graphics.
