Friedrich Gorenstein (1932-2002) was a novelist, playwright, screenwriter ("Solaris", "Slave of Love"). Gorenstein's prose was not printed in Soviet Russia at all, he gave his manuscripts to read only to his "inner circle", in the late seventies foreign publications appeared. Yuri Trifonov, A. Konchalovsky, A. Tarkovsky, and B. Sarnov called his novels "Mesto", "Psalm", and "Redemption" brilliant. He did not adhere to any movement or direction, did not find a place in any camp, and the status of a classic gained during his lifetime. In 1980, the writer emigrated and died in 2002 in Berlin. This collection includes the story "Steps", first published in the almanac "Metropol", and three works of the emigrant period: "Chok-Chok", "Fly at the drop of tea" and "Street of Red Zory", which gave the title to the book. Dmitry Bykov called "Street..." "spiritual autobiography of the author and the most tearful and painful text, written with true Platonic power." The edition was published on the occasion of Friedrich Gorenstein's 90th birthday.
