Where it all began.
The year is 2049, Washington, D.C. Senator Paul Thurman invites a young congressman, Donald Keeney, an architect by education, to participate in a special project under the code name of the Containment and Disposal Complex. The essence of the project is the creation of an underground storage facility for nuclear and toxic waste, and Donald is tasked with designing a bunker-shelter for the facility's maintenance personnel. The year is 2052, Fulton County, Georgia. The project is completed. And as if as a culmination to its completion, America is covered by a series of nuclear strikes. Thurman, Donald and other elected representatives of American society move to the equipped shelter. Here, Keeney discovers the harsh and terrible truth: the Containment and Disposal Complex was just a curtain for the global Operation Fifty, the purpose of which is to save part of humanity in the event of a nuclear catastrophe. And the number 50 means the number of shelters built, controlled from the command center of shelter #1. How did all this continue? The year 2212 and further, up to and including 2345. The shelters, one after another, break away from the main one. Rebellion follows rebellion, and each is brutally suppressed by remote activation of poison gas. How will all this end? Unknown. In May 2023, the premiere of the first season of the TV series "Shelter", based on the novel by Howie (directed by Adam Bernstein and Morten Tyldum, with a screenplay by Graham Yost), took place. The series enjoyed immense popularity, received high ratings and has already been renewed for a second and third seasons.
