"After Mayakovsky, there has been no such metaphorical Niagara in Russian poetry. Voznesensky had many opponents from his early youth, but no one could take away the fact that he created his own style, his own rhythm," wrote Yevgeny Yevtushenko. Voznesensky's literary debut was rapid and turbulent. The late 50's - early 60's - the era of the "thaw" and a real poetry boom. And Voznesensky immediately stood in line with the recognized poets of his time. Each new book of his poems caused a flurry of criticism and controversy, and young people burst at his performances. The poet read his works on the stages of Moscow and Paris, London and New York, Warsaw and Florence. Dozens of famous songs were written to his poems.
