This monograph explores the life and work of G. L. Labbé-Delonde (1773–1830), a French teacher, translator, and talented individual who left no theoretical works in the field of philology but influenced the development of pedagogical thought in Russia.

Delonde's membership in the circle of renowned philologists of his time and his involvement in the teaching community suggest that he may have been the prototype for Monsieur l'Abbé, traditionally considered a fictional character in Alexander Pushkin's verse novel Eugene Onegin. The introduction of previously unknown facts from Delonde's biography will enrich readers' understanding of the history of translation studies, the development of poetic prose in France and Russia, and language teaching methods in the first third of the 19th century.

Elena Markasova, Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor at the Institute of Foreign Languages, Peking University (PRC). Pavel Klyushin is a master's student at St. Petersburg State University.
