The fairy tale was written back in 1924, four years before the first publication, but Olesha was unable to publish it then: the manuscript was not accepted by the publishers. The writer dedicated "Three Fat Men" to Valentina Grunseid. The girl who lived next door to him was avidly reading Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, and Olesha promised to write a fairy tale for her no worse. The plot of the work tells of a country ruled by cruel and greedy rich men - the Three Fat Men. To stop their atrocities, circus performers and guards, scientists and artisans unite. The brave heroes intend to organize a revolution, and the key role in it will be played by the girl Suok, who is unusually similar to the mechanical doll of the heir Tutti. In this edition, "Three Fat Men" is supplemented with wonderful color illustrations by two artists.
