Moscow, early 1990s. The protagonist suffers from unbearable headaches, and soon doctors discover a benign tumor. While waiting for the operation, life goes on, and in this life there is a place for vernissages and poetry evenings, trips to the dacha, drinking parties with friends and, of course, painful self-reflection and fear of the future. Like Dovlatov, Gandlevsky's hero is autobiographical, here and there real people flash by - the author's friends and colleagues: Timur Kibirov, Lev Rubinstein, Alexander Soprovsky, Semyon Faibisovich, Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov and many others. The "here and now" narrative is constantly diluted with memories of "uncensored" youth, and vivid everyday details make this prose especially memorable.
"NRZB" is a novel about the studio poet Lev Krivorotov (the surname in this case is telling); In his youth, he aimed for the trajectory of "creativity, love, masterpieces, a period of persecution, gray hair, tailcoat, Stockholm, laureate speech," but, alas, his plans did not come true. Twenty years later, Krivorot has pushed creativity into the background and is working on the legacy of Viktor Chigrashov, a poet about whom his contemporaries once said: "We will be remembered only because we breathed the same air with him." The bitterness of unfulfilled hopes, jealousy and hidden resentment are Krivorot's life fuel, but even in this stagnant water there will be surprises...
