One hundred years ago, in the days of the February Revolution of 1917, dozens of naval officers, whose only fault was faithful service to the Fatherland, were killed in the Baltic Fleet as a result of sailor lynchings. The February murders were the heaviest blow not only for the officer corps, but also for the entire Russian society. The author, using previously unknown archival materials, reconstructs the events of those days, trying to find out the reasons for this tragedy; revealing in detail the circumstances of the officers' deaths, answers the question of how many officers were actually killed in the days of the "great and bloodless" revolution, gives biographies of the dead officers. Introducing new documents and testimonies of contemporaries, the author shows a large-scale picture of those events.
