The book by Anatoly Smelyansky is dedicated to his long-time friend and comrade-in-arms, the outstanding theater writer and critic — Inna Natanovna Solovieva (1927–2024).
In the first part, the author attempts to paint a portrait of I. Solovieva, reconstructing her biography and supplementing the facts with vivid memoirs-scenes and precise psychological touches.
The second part of the book is a correspondence between A. Smelyansky and I. Solovieva; even separated by the Atlantic Ocean, the interlocutors continued their joint work and dialogue, in which they discussed the fate of the Moscow Art Theater in the 20th century.
The third and fourth parts contain texts written by A. Smelyansky in different years and on different occasions, one way or another connected with the main works of I. Solovieva and with the understanding of the Art Theater that she professed.
Anatoly Smelyansky is a doctor of art history, theatre critic, theatre historian, and author of numerous original programmes about Russian theatre of the 20th century, shown on the Kultura TV channel.
