Borya Shustov is not quite human.
Since childhood, he knows that he will have to get sick, suffer and die for the sake of the world becoming a little better. He knows that he and others like him are needed to prevent disasters on the planet - and the price of this ability is too high.
Borya's mother died early - but she remained in him and in his dad. In the literal sense too.
Borya's dad honestly tries to fulfill his duty, but he is also not quite human, and his duty goes somewhat beyond the human.
Borya thinks that he has a choice. He thinks that he can live separately, and the world separately.
This is a story about monsters. About family, whatever it is, and about life, whatever it is.
