The book of memoirs of the author of "The Shadow" and "Ordinary Miracle", "The Dragon" and the script for "Cinderella", the sage and storyteller Evgeny Schwartz, called "The Phone Book", has no analogues in memoir literature. First, it is a real prose, written exclusively for himself, without regard for contemporaries and censorship, and therefore absolutely truthful. Secondly, it is a noble prose, as noble as its creator - devoid of envy and whining, strict to the author himself and fair to the characters depicted in it. Why "The Phone Book" and not just "The Book of Memories"? Because the draft for the memoir was a real phone book with the names of real people the writer met in life - from "A" to "I". From the famous, famous, celebrated, enamored with the love of the people to the small world of this world, not pretending to special fame - a master at installing telephones or theatrical dressmaker. Shvarts himself formulated the task of creating the book as follows: "I write about living people, which I consider to the best of my ability in detail and accurately, like a phenomenon of nature. I have recently been afraid that people of the most complex time, who under its pressure took or did not take the most complex forms, who changed imperceptibly for themselves or persistently did not notice the changes around them, would disappear. No, it's simpler than that. I'm afraid that everything that is noisy and living around me now will die, and no one will remember them - the living ones. And that's not quite accurate. It seems to me that any living face is a historical face - and so on and so forth. So I write, calling names and surnames of historical persons". And this task the writer fulfilled with honor.
