The year is 1916, the height of the war. The Russian command learns of an unprecedented act of audacity: the Germans have established a secret submarine base in the quiet Abkhazian bay of Myussera near Pitsunda. The Ottomans, along with local traitors, have provided the pirates with full provisions: fuel, supplies, and peace. From here, the submarines set out to hunt and sink Russian vessels.
To root out the enemy nest, State Councilor Lykov and his trusted assistant, Azvestopulo, are dispatched to the site. The detectives have a daring plan: disguised as cunning businessmen harboring deserters from the front, assemble a team of cutthroats and strike the base from within.
Having gathered desperate warriors and criminals under their banner, the detectives set out on the job. However, a surprise awaits them on the spot. There is no base as such, only a warehouse stocked with everything necessary for submarine warfare. Lykov manages to track down a submarine surfacing to recharge. Here it is, the prey! But will Lykov and his motley crew overcome the warehouse guards and the elusive submarine, or will they fall into the enemy's cunning traps?
A gripping historical detective novel by Nikolai Svechin, winner of the Russian Detective Award. This novel is part of the Alexei Lykov series and is the 39th in the series.
