The book "Freedom and Order: An Essay on Social Utopias" by the German philosopher Ernst Bloch explores the nature of the ideal state, its historical forms, and its role in the development of society. It explores the German philosopher's main theme—the history and philosophy of social utopias. The problem of substantiating a positive view of utopia is closely connected with the "philosophy of hope," to which Bloch devoted his entire life ("The Principle of Hope," 1954–1959). Bloch views utopia as a space for finding a balance between human freedom and social stability. Analyzing utopian concepts from different eras, he demonstrates how ideas about the ideal social structure evolved and the values that underpinned these projects. The book was first translated into Russian by Professor S. E. Vershinin, who also translated Bloch's "Tübingen Introduction to Philosophy."

The book is addressed to historians, philosophers, sociologists, cultural scientists, literary scholars, and all readers interested in the history of social thought, political ideas, and the phenomenon of social utopias.
