Prince of imperial blood Oleg Konstantinovich Romanov entered Russian history under the name of the luminous prince. Great-grandson of Nicholas I, son of the famous poet C. R. - Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich, he lived a short but so bright life that his early death was sincerely mourned by all intellectual Russia. A career military man from childhood, gifted with a passion and talent for literature, music and art, he graduated from the Lyceum and as a young man became the first publisher of Pushkin's manuscripts. He died at the age of 22, at the very beginning of the First World War, and his heroic death caused a mass of reactions in the Russian press. These reactions are partly published in the Appendix to the book written by N. K. Kulman, a teacher of literature and a senior friend of Prince Oleg, a year after his death and published in 1915. In offering it to today's reader, we proceeded not only from memorial motives: the constant introspection, the tension of the spiritual life and the high moral attitudes of the young prince are striking and can even today serve as a good example of self-education for any aspiring person.
