Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was an English writer, poet and publicist. He wrote poetry throughout his life: the dates of creation of many poems are separated by thirty to forty years. Some of his poems are familiar to us, although we do not always remember their authorship. The romance "For the Gypsy Star", famous thanks to Nikita Mikhalkov's performance, was written to the text of Kipling's poem of the same name. Kipling opened a new page in European poetry, directing it into the mainstream of mass folk song. It is also appropriate to talk about the educational mission of the English poet, who replaced the elegant style with the modest romanticism of everyday life. The best poems of Rudyard Kipling are written in the traditions of the English ballad with its characteristic simplicity and accessibility to the reader. Simple life wisdom, the search for beauty in the ordinary - these are the characteristic features of Kipling's poetry. To be happy, it is not necessary to have a lot of money and belong to a noble family. It is enough to discover the treasures of the surrounding world every day, carefully and painstakingly. The truth is where the sincerity of feelings is combined with the purity of thoughts, therefore even in the life and love of an ordinary "fool" there is more secret meaning than in the soulless existence of the rich. In 1907, Kipling became the first Englishman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, as well as the youngest Nobel laureate in literature in the history of the award. In the same year, he also received awards from the universities of Paris, Strasbourg, Athens and Toronto; Kipling was also awarded honorary degrees from Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh and Durham Universities.
