This book about Istanbul was written by Corrado Aujias, a resident of another "eternal city" - Rome. A writer, journalist, a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and the Legion of Honor of France, the author of books about Paris, London, New York, and, of course, Rome, translated into many languages. Drawing parallels with his native Rome, the author tells the reader the history of Istanbul and its inhabitants in an easy, lively language, revealing their secrets.

For Corrado Aujias, it was important not only to tell about the different places and events in the history of Istanbul, but also to convey the special atmosphere of the city, to describe which Orhan Pamuk uses the Turkish word "hüzün" - it can be translated as "longing", "sadness", "bitterness" or, with a certain degree of error, as "melancholy" ... Vain regrets about an era that can no longer be returned are both a consequence and a cause of the decline of the city. These reflections allow us to once again bring together Istanbul and Rome, two unforgettable, brilliant cities that have lost their former glory, the author believes.
