Fazil Iskander became known immediately after the publication in the “New World” of the story “Constellation of the Goat”. The satire on Soviet society, which sought to improve life in sometimes absurd ways, was so relevant that it was immediately accepted by all.

The story-parable, almost dystopia, “Rabbits and boas” brought the writer world fame. The writer is interested in the relationship of hope, fear and freedom. A clear awareness of the psychological mechanism of personality suppression: only a person experiencing fear can be hypnotized, and the nature of personality suppression lies exclusively in the fear that the person herself experiences - the most important thought of the story.

In the parable “The Broader”, later included in the novel “Sandro of Chegem”, Fazil Iskander once again stressed that it is impossible to enslave someone who unconditionally seeks freedom.
