Eva Peron started out as a simple tango dancer and became a mother of the fatherland and an icon for millions of people in Argentina and around the world. After her death, the Vatican was inundated with letters demanding that Evita be declared a saint.
She dedicated her entire political career to the fight against poverty. Eva Peron made a huge theoretical and practical contribution to the ideology of justicialism (Peronism). The unification of socialism with Christianity later formed the basis of liberation theology. Eva Peron's anti-nationalism and nationalism inspired the Montoneros movement to fight the pro-American Videla junta.
After the junta fell as a result of defeat in the Falkland War, Argentina fell into a deep crisis. At the same time, far-right governments continued to ban Peronism and fight against the legacy of Eva Peron. Already in the 21st century, when Cristina Kirchner rebuilt Argentina after the financial crisis of 2001, Eva Peron’s ideas once again became part of the state ideology.
