The doctor Miron Ginkas (1921-1983) was a prisoner of the Kaunas ghetto for two years, escaped with his family and hid in the Nazi-occupied city for another year. He wrote down his memories of this time primarily for his children and grandchildren, realizing that a book about the Holocaust had no chance of being published by Soviet publishing houses. But in fact, all of us who are alive today are children and grandchildren of survivors, and these memories are addressed to all of us. The publication of this book is in memory of those who were threatened with death every day just because they were "appointed" to die, for whom survival and saving their loved ones became an urgent goal. In memory of those who did not survive who did not manage to tell about their experiences. In memory of those who, risking their lives and freedom, helped, rescued, sheltered. Who, despite inhuman dangers, did not lose courage, dignity, sympathy and love....
