The events described in the novel take place in 1883 in the snowy Icelandic countryside, in the southwest of the country. The plot unexpectedly intertwines the fates of three main characters: Fridrik, who once studied abroad in Denmark, Abba - a girl with Down's syndrome, who was found on a wrecked foreign ship off the coast of Iceland, and the priest of the local parish Baldur Skuggason - a great lover of fox hunting. Despite the lightness of the narrative and even a touch of fairy tale, the book touches on the humanity of today's society. It is also fascinating that until the last page it is not clear who is the real hero and who is the villain.
