The Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 is a landmark event in Russian history. Having gone through a series of qualitative transformations and reforms, Russia once again showed the whole world that its interests should be reckoned with and its armies should be feared. Helping the brotherly Bulgarian people to throw off the Ottoman yoke and liberate their country from foreign invaders, Russia acted as a defender of all the weak and oppressed. In this war there were many battles, in each of which the Russian soldier showed himself at his best, showing miracles of fortitude, courage and self-sacrifice, but the most famous are the battle of Shipka Pass and the siege of Pleven. These and other no less interesting events are described in this work. Thanks to the careful treatment of facts, reliance on authentic documents of that era and the ease of presentation of the material, the book will be of interest to a wide range of readers.
