Emile Durkheim (1858-1917) was a French sociologist and philosopher, professor at the universities of Bordeaux and Sorbonne, founder of the French sociological school, and one of the founders of sociology as an independent science.
This book, first published in 1897, became a model of sociological research. Durkheim used the method of secondary analysis of existing official statistics, and, based on extensive factual material, analyzed the phenomenon of suicide from a variety of angles: social and moral-psychological, religious and ethnic.
