Evgeny Chizhov is a novelist, twice a finalist of the Big Book, a finalist of the NOS Prize and a winner of the Yasnaya Polyana Prize ("The Gatherer of Paradise"), and a winner of the Venetz Prize of the Moscow Writers' Union ("Translation from a Substroke").
The characters of Yevgeny Chizhov's stories, who are different from each other, are united by their unchanging readiness to experiment on themselves in search of their own, unearned truths, their ease in dealing with life and death, and the recklessness with which they are able to cross the border between them. Mesmerized by this ease, the author tells the stories of his characters, sometimes growing into extended metaphors for the catastrophes of our time, and sometimes intersecting with his own, and then the narrative takes on an autobiographical character. "Muscovite Evgeny Chizhov writes novels that are commonly referred to as "smart": and indeed, a graduate of the Moscow State University Law School, intellectual and fantasist in his creations clearly does not really count on a mass audience. The more his success in the circles of intellectuals, and the new book of the writer has already caused delight among the "advanced" public." Lidia Maslova (Izvestia)
