Could the Egyptians have reached the New World on their papyrus ships? This question was asked by the legendary scientist Thor Heyerdahl back in 1969, and he set off on an unprecedented scientific expedition on replicas of ancient ships. The scientist invited a young military doctor, Yuri Senkevich, to be his doctor.
Day after day, the future founder of the "Travelers' Club" kept records, describing in detail all the difficulties they had to overcome.
"As if ordered by the same psychologists, circumstances ensured that the experiment was complicated by additional circumstances with each passing hour...", recalled Yuri Senkevich. Hunger, inhuman conditions, a risk to life at any moment - all this united and embittered at the same time. By the end of the expedition, everyone dreamed only of returning home, but the following year, Yuri Senkevich wrote in his diary: "... Today, a year later, we are again in the ocean. And again, in the contract signed by each of us, it says: “...I take a risk and I realize that I am taking a risk.”
