This study was carried out by the same team of historians who published the books "Rzhev 1942. The First Summer Success" and "Rzhev 42/43. From "Mars" to "Büffel".
A two-volume study of the battle for Rzhev and the Rzhev salient from late 1941 to mid-1942 completes five years of work on illuminating largely unknown pages in the history of the Great Patriotic War.
The first volume is devoted to the analysis of the battles for Rzhev in the fall of 1941 and the subsequent actions of the armies of the Kalinin Front, who tried to take the city in December 1941 - April 1942, as well as cut the key supply line of the German group in the Rzhev area - the Rzhev-Sychevka railway.
The work pays special attention to the strategy and tactics of the Red Army and the Wehrmacht, an assessment of the plans and capabilities of the parties, as well as an analysis of the operational situation that developed as a result of protracted battles on the Rzhev salient. The study examines in detail the difficulties of logistics associated with terrain conditions and other factors, their impact on the outcome of battles, as well as the actions of the opposing sides to hold important transport hubs.
For the first time, the book publishes data on the losses of both sides from October 1941 to April 1943. The work is based on the analysis of operational documents, memoirs and diaries of participants in the battles, as well as modern research, offering a deep look at one of the largest and bloodiest campaigns of the Great Patriotic War.
