At the beginning of the 20th century. Persia (Iran) was in a state of deep decline. In 1905, the Shah had granted the country a constitution. But after his successor violated it, civil war broke out in the country. To protect the lives and property of its subjects and to counter the influence of England and Germany, the Russian Empire twice (in 1909 and in 1911) had to send limited military forces to Persia. With the outbreak of World War I, the territory of Persia became the scene of a fierce struggle between the Turkish troops led by German advisers and the Russian expeditionary corps under the command of General N.N. Baratov. These events, little known in our country, are described in the book based on documentary material by the famous military historian A.V. Shishov.
