They were completely different in character, habits, aspirations and way of life. Grigory Shelikhov, an experienced businessman, the owner of a huge trading empire and the owner of a huge fortune. Desperate naval officers, very young people, whose life and death seem to have descended from the pages of an adventure novel - Nikolai Khvostov and Gavriil Davydov. A man who devoted his life to serving God and people - Hieromonk Gedeon. All these people have one thing in common - their destinies are connected with Russian America.
The history of Russian America is more than two centuries full of various events, discoveries, accomplishments, and glorious names of pioneers, travelers, entrepreneurs who made this history. Shelikhov was first of all an industrialist and merchant, and at the same time his organized expeditions to Alaska, Kadyak Island and other places gave valuable material for science. Khvostov and Davydov sought glory and wanted to make a military career, but their voyages enriched geography with numerous discoveries. Hieromonk Gedeon was called to care for the souls of people, and surprisingly found time for ethnographic research, which allowed to better understand the life and life of the indigenous inhabitants of North America. And so, although the page is turned, it is rich in many glorious events, and the memory of them will remain forever. For, as the poet said: "The Russian Columbuses, despising the sullen doom, Between the ice a new way will open to the east, And our power will reach America, And to all ends will reach the glory of the Russians." These words of the great Lomonosov were addressed to Grigory Shelikhov, but they can also be said about Gavriil Davydov, about Hieromonk Gedeon, and about all those who discovered, studied and developed Russian America.
