A. V. Vedernikov's book, "The Religious Fates of Great Men of Russian National Culture," is a course of lectures on the history of Russian religious thought, delivered by the author from 1944 to 1948 at the Orthodox Theological Institute, later transformed into the Moscow Theological Academy.
The history of religious thought is examined within the chronological framework of the 18th and 19th centuries, through the lives and destinies of the most prominent representatives of Russian culture. The author invites readers to establish a living connection with the bearers of religious consciousness in the past, in order to enrich and expand their own religious consciousness. By revealing the religious world of great men, A. V. Vedernikov points out the paths along which, through the power of God's grace, human salvation for eternity is accomplished. By acquiring the ability to penetrate the nature of sinful temptations, we learn to more successfully fight for the restoration of moral dignity within ourselves.
This book will be of interest not only to students of theological schools but also to a wide range of readers.
The lectures are published without changes, in the form in which A. V. Vedernikov himself prepared them.
