Pavel Sudoplatov is one of those few intelligence officers who are rightly called legendary.
The range of tasks he carried out was extremely wide. From organizing the liquidation of Leon Trotsky, who lived in Mexico, to simulating Moscow's interest in separate negotiations with Berlin in the fall of 1941.
Fate decreed that by the time this book was completed, Pavel Sudoplatov, one of the heads of the independent military and foreign policy intelligence centers of the Soviet Union, remained the only witness and direct participant in the confrontation between the special services and the zigzags in the Kremlin's domestic and foreign policy in the period from 1930 to 1950.
Despite the repressions in the pre-war and post-war years, Pavel Sudoplatov, who was imprisoned for 15 years, due to a bizarre combination of circumstances and undoubted luck, managed to survive and write down a number of memoirs related to the contradictory and tragic development of events of that time.
