The Great War, later called the First World War, brought an end to the Belle Epoque. The moloch of war is insatiable, it requires new sacrifices, new forces, new techniques; battles are not only on the ground, but also in the air, and, although the winged machines invented recently and far from perfect, among the pilots appear more and more real aces. Among them is young Michael Courtney, who masterfully manages his fighter. One day his military luck leaves him, and he miraculously survives, but it is this chance that gives him a happy meeting with the charming Frenchwoman Santaine. But miracles rarely happen twice. Michael is killed in an air battle on the day on which his wedding is scheduled.... Santen must learn to live again. She leaves her shattered home and goes on a Red Cross ship to South Africa, to the homeland of her dead fiancé, not knowing that she will not set foot on the paradise land so colorfully described by Michael, but on the burning shore, the edge of the desert, where at every step you have to fight for your life ... Continuation of the epic about the indomitable Courtney, whose motto says: "I will endure". Based on the novel, the movie "Scorched Coast" (Italy, France, Germany) was made in 1991. Directed by Jeannot Schwartz, co-written by Wilbur Smith, with Marina Vlady in a supporting role.
