Admiral Alexander Kolchak – an outstanding master of military affairs, naval commander, vice admiral and admiral of the Baltic Fleet, commander of the Black Sea Fleet, and corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences – went down in history as the leader of the White movement during the Russian Civil War. He was the Supreme Ruler of Russia and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Army (1918–1920).
Kolchak was recognized by all White Army commanders. “His name is the name of an entire movement, an entire era of the Russian Revolution. He linked his name with the idea in the name of which the civil war was waged – the idea of a united, great Russia…” – said Rear Admiral Mikhail Smirnov of him.
Starting on January 20, 1920, Kolchak was interrogated by members of the Extraordinary Investigative Commission appointed by the leadership of the Politcenter, a Socialist Revolutionary-Menshevik organization. On the night of February 6–7, 1920, he was executed. Kolchak's interrogation protocols are a living thread of history, a testimony to his entire life, a first-person account of Russian history.
