One of the main "heroes" of the novel is time. It powerfully changes human destinies and street names, turning over generations like the pages of a book. Time arbitrarily disposes of the fate of the protagonist, Irina. She gave birth to two children, but raised and educated three. A crystal-honest person, she almost goes to prison... When Irina returns to her hometown after the war, it appears as wounded as her own life. Children grow up and no longer remember what she knows and remembers. Or don't want to remember? - But that means the grandchildren will never know the past: it slips away, leaving no trace in reality, yet it continues to live on in memories, dreams and conversations with those who are no longer there. The only way to stop the moment is to remember it and pass this memory to a person of another time, a new generation. The book continues the story of the Ivanov family - the children of the very old men, about whom the author's first book ("Once upon a time there was an old man and an old woman").
