This book is about the tragedy of a poet and thinker who died fulfilling his duty to Russia. Along this path, A.S. Pushkin, who preached the idea of honor and nobility as the foundation of true patriotism, clashed with the ideologist of Nicholas's reign, the Minister of Public Education S.S. Uvarov, a proponent of "enlightened slavery" and representative of the powerful imperial bureaucracy. And this clash proved deadly.
The tragedy of Pushkin, who foresaw the coming catastrophes and dreamed of preventing them, was the continuation and culmination of the tragedy of the "noble avant-garde." Harassment, slander, and loneliness forced the poet to choose the most radical form of struggle—duel.
