Turkey, Büyükada Island, 2017. One sunny summer morning, the family members of renowned artist Shirin Saka gather to celebrate her centenary. This feast should be a time of memories dear to their hearts, given the celebrant's long prolific career and nearly a century of life experience, but it is overshadowed by the memory of a time of violent ethnic clashes in the part of the country where the artist spent her childhood.
In the polyphonic novel by contemporary Turkish writer Defne Suman, the parallel voices of the characters develop several themes that come to a climax during the centennial celebration of the work's main and oldest character. Through memories of life's trials and losses, the participants in this significant family event unexpectedly gain knowledge of their family's historical and ethnic roots and the origins of their identity, recover ancestral memory and family ties, accept their past and through this understand themselves, their loved ones and their future - all of which will later help them to overcome the obstacles they face and get on the right road.
