Tsukiko leads a secluded life. In her opinion, she is not cut out for love and is used to spending lonely evenings in a bar, where she meets her schoolteacher by chance.
He, too, lives alone in a slightly abandoned apartment where he collects strange objects.
The teacher and Tsukiko make an unspoken pact between them to share the loneliness. They choose the same food, seek each other's company, and find it difficult to part ways, though sometimes they try to escape: the teacher to the memories of his wife who left him; Tsukiko to a former classmate.
As Tsukiko and the teacher grow closer, the flow of life is marked by gentle hints of the changing seasons: from warming to refreshing drinks, from buds budding on trees to sakura blossoms...
This is a touching, funny, and compelling story of modern Japan and old-fashioned romance.
