Pianists Andrei and Oleg have known each other since they were children, since they studied at music school. But their destinies turn out differently. One comes from a provincial family of music teachers, the other is the son of high-status Muscovite parents. Both are talented and charismatic. Each builds relationships with women in his own way. Andrei's reticence and his immersion in music lead to conflicts at work and at home. The overly sociable Oleg also faces a cruel reality. As a result, the pianists find themselves in a criminal situation on an island in Southeast Asia.
In the book, the world of classical music appears as a bright kaleidoscope of many faces, where prestigious concert halls are replaced by a rural club, famous festivals - a master class in the backwoods. Young people from a Brazilian orchestra led by a frenetic conductor together with a solid lawyer and a producer from Germany come to the aid of Russian pianists. But will the friends be able to come out of this story with dignity and keep each their love?
