The book by the famous French philosopher, ethnographer and psychologist Lucien Lévy-Bruhl is devoted to the problems of the nature of human thinking and the cultural conditionality of its development. Lévy-Bruhl develops his own concept of pralogical thinking, the main provisions of which have gained considerable popularity and caused a wide polemic in various fields of humanities. This polemic is partly reflected in the article by the famous Soviet scientist V.K. Nikolsky, which opens the present edition and also touches upon the problem of perception of Lévy-Bruhl's ideas in Russia. The book may be useful for psychologists, religious studies, anthropologists, cultural studies, and all those interested in the problems of human cognition.
