Lidia Vladimirovna Savelyeva (1937-2021) was the great-great-granddaughter of Alexander Pushkin, Doctor of Philological Sciences. In her memoirs she tells about her childhood and growing up in Ukraine, where the family moved in 1939, about her student years spent at Leningrad University. Remembering the occupation of Poltava by German troops, school years after the war or university lectures of famous scientists, Lydia pays much attention to details that help the reader to better understand the historical context. An important place in the memoirs is taken by the author's understanding of her personal relationship with classical literature, and Savelyeva's fate itself becomes a vivid example of cultural closeness and the inseparable bond between the Russian and Ukrainian peoples.
