Italy, 1940s. Graziella Ponti is seven years old, living in a tiny village in northern Italy. "Paradiso" is inspired by true stories told to the author by her Italian family, and the book is set in the places where she spent most of her childhood. It's a very traditional, even slightly old-fashioned novel about childhood, growing up, love, the magic of Italy, and how the world around us is simultaneously terrifying and beautiful.
