The Rostov region, the village of Bogdanov, the Upper Donets River, endless reed beds, a Chekhovian melancholy permeating the air. It was here that a young priest, Father Sergiy, received his parish, or rather, was exiled here due to a conflict with the church authorities. Father Sergiy finds everything strange, and he himself seems out of place: he drives a blue Tesla, wears fashionable sneakers, and the simple joys and sorrows of the locals frighten him. Despite his worldly trappings, Sergei is a deeply religious man, once confident in his calling but now finding himself in a deep crisis. Gradually, the priest becomes embroiled in the affairs of those around him: businessman Dubrov, who rose through shady dealings in the 1990s, elderly atheist women, and a teenager, the son of an alcoholic. He will repeatedly face difficult choices, through which he will rediscover his path.

"Father Seryozha" is a mature, profound prose work, heir to the traditions of Russian realism, especially Chekhov, and Russian modernism. The poignant, piercing tone with which Marina Chufistova speaks of human actions dissolves into the melancholy steppe landscape.
