The second edition of the book is corrected and supplemented and continues the series of books devoted to the armament of the Russian army during the First World War. This book of the series tells about cold weapons: a checkers, sabers, swords, swords, pikes, dirks, daggers, bayonets, both having combat value and used as ceremonial in peacetime. A special place in the book is occupied by the description of experimental samples of cold weapons of the late XIX - early XX centuries, without which the reader's idea of the level of development of Russian weapon-technical thought would be incomplete. For each sample is given a brief history of its creation and adoption into service, highlighted the main changes to which the system was subjected in the continuation of its release. Much attention is paid to the use of the weapon in the troops, its advantages and disadvantages in the eyes of the soldier. For the first time in domestic practice, such items of armament as curved bebut daggers, cavalry pikes and ceremonial sabers of the Guard Cossack units are described in great detail. The presented book, as well as others from the series "The Great War", is written primarily from the point of view of those who had to fight with these weapons - soldiers and officers of the Russian army of the early twentieth century. In domestic practice, an attempt to describe this kind of attempt is made for the first time. Due to this fact, the book will be of interest to specialist historians, costume designers, military reconstructors, as well as to all those interested in the history of the Russian army of the period 1914-1917. When writing the book, materials from archival funds were widely used, as well as published sources of the early twentieth century, mainly special and technical literature, nowadays representing a great rarity. The book is provided with extensive illustrative material from both museum collections and private collections. Much of the information contained in the book is published for the first time.
