This book explores little-known chapters in the history of World War II in a secondary, yet at one point crucial, theater of war. It concerns the Soviet-British military operation "Operation Entente," which involved the simultaneous occupation of Iranian territory from the north and south, carried out in August 1941. The goal of the operation was to prevent German intelligence from actively engaging in the country, which was attempting to persuade the Shah's government to side with the Axis powers. Furthermore, a secure land corridor for the Western allies to supply the Soviet Union with military aid could be established through Iranian territory.

Based on archival and other documentary materials, this work, for the first time in Russian historiography, reveals the military preparations of all participants (the USSR, Great Britain, and Iran) in this short-lived drama, as well as the military, political, and diplomatic efforts during Operation Entente.
