In a small town in New Hampshire lives, it would seem, the most ordinary family: dad, mom and two daughters. But unfortunately, the youngest daughter, five-year-old Willow, suffers from a rare genetic disease, and any careless movement can lead to a fracture. And so Charlotte and Sean O'Keefe's life consists of sleepless nights, mounting bills, humiliating pity from other parents, and obsessive thoughts of what if... What if Charlotte had known about their daughter's illness before she was born? What if things had been different? What if their beloved Willow had never been born? And how precious is every human life? And so, in an agonizing attempt to make ends meet to cover her daughter's medical expenses, Charlotte takes a desperate step. She files a wrongful birth lawsuit against her doctor, who failed to warn her in advance that the child would be born with a severe disability. If the case is successful, the monetary payments will be able to provide care for Willow for the rest of the girl's life. Charlotte faces a difficult moral and ethical issue, because the doctor she decides to sue is her best friend... "Handle with Care" is a heart-wrenching novel that raises the issue of the value of human life and what we are willing to do to protect it.
