Yuri Viliamovich Kozlov's novel "The New Thief" tells about a few days in the life of a federal minister, busy preparing for the All-Russian inaugural prayer service. The habitual activity of the official is disturbed by the sudden appearance of the son of a long-dead friend of his youth, after which the narrative stratifies and goes in parallel, revealing several hypostases of the protagonist. The work is filled with satirical allusions to the phenomena of modern Russian life and paradoxical to obvious conclusions from them. Stylistically and compositionally, the novel is written in a very reader-friendly manner in a beautiful Russian language. Published in November 2019 in Roman-gazeta, the novel was awarded the N. S. Leskov Literary Prize in the category "Artistic Prose".
