When Samuel was still a boy, his mother left him and his father. She spent a year gradually clearing out her belongings until, at the last minute, she left forever with just one suitcase. And then, many years later, an unknown assailant attacks the governor. Samuel learns from the news that his mother was the one who carried out the brazen and utterly absurd attack. Shouting, "You pig!" she threw a handful of rubble at the governor, seriously damaging his eye. However, it doesn't seem like a premeditated attack—no one knew the governor would be in this exact place at that precise time. Their meeting was a coincidence. Newspapers, having obtained a photo from the 1960s, call her a "radical hippie." Samuel remembers her as a quiet, modest housewife. So who was she really and why did she commit such an act? The investigation will lead Samuel to Norway, the homeland of his ancestors, and then into his own past, where many secrets await him.
