The collection of outstanding playwright and prose writer Leonid Genrikhovich Zorin (1924–2020), dedicated to the 100th anniversary of his birth, includes plays, stories, short stories, and memoirs dedicated to one of the central themes of his work — the relationship between the artist and the authorities, or, more broadly, literature and politics. The book reflects the evolution of the writer's views on creative freedom from the mid-20th century to the last years of his long creative path. Leonid Zorin considered the plays "The Copper Grandmother", "The Missing Plot", "The Denouement" and others included in the volume to be his main works. The author also reflects on the dramatic relationship between the artist and the authorities in the fragments of his memoir novel “Center Stage” included in the book, which tell about the complex theatrical fate of many of his plays, as well as about the remarkable directorial and acting works of A. Lobanov, G. Tovstonogov, O. Efremov, S. Yursky, R. Bykov and others, which were not destined to reach the audience.
